On the last expedition we were challenged to complete a four point compass hike by ourselves. The first time out I did OK, getting to the second marker, but on the second test I didn’t do so hot. May I mention that my compass was broken?
On the second compass hike, I missed the second marker and ended up going too far down into the rhododendrons. I had been taught that if after fifteen minutes I had not found the second marker, I should stop, but I did the exact opposite. I kept second guessing myself, thinking I was going the correct way and that I would find the marker if I kept going. After a while I realized I was wrong.
I stopped hiking and started blowing my whistle, and after a bit, Mr. Dan found me, and I was safe.
