The movie Lonesome Dove, a western about a group of ranchers herding cattle north from Texas, is a combination of action and romance. In Part One, the ranchers go into Mexico and steal a herd from the Mexicans, and then head north about 1,500 miles from Texas to start a ranch on the Canadian Border. Along the way they are faced with tough conditions, such as wind and sand-storms, hot temperatures, and hostile Indians. Worst of all, while crossing a river, one of the cattleman, an Irishman, gets attacked by a ball of water moccasins and dies. That was the end of Part One, and I’m looking forward to Part Two tomorrow night.
